FreightWaves’ media division is a growing, dynamic unit that drives the narrative in a sector that impacts the entire world. We are seeking a top-notch journalist to edit copy for our digital platforms and other initiatives. The successful candidate not only will be a stickler for accuracy and style but will also improve the quality of our stories, offering feedback to writers and maintaining the high standards established by our editorial team. In addition, industry knowledge, SEO awareness and WordPress experience will be key advantages.
**** This position is 100% remote.
What you will be doing:
- Copy editing stories for style, grammar and punctuation.
- Working with reporters to improve content and SEO.
- Checking headlines, subheads and excerpts, and making necessary changes.
- Utilizing WordPress to help with production of stories.
- Working alongside our other copy editors to maintain site consistency and efficiency.
- Attending (virtual) meetings.
What you bring to the table:
- Five years or more of journalism experience, preferably in a copy editing role.
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communications, English or a related area preferred but not required.
- Ability to churn through copy efficiently yet comprehensively.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Knowledge and understanding of SEO best practices.
- A passion for the unique story and ability to recognize content that will serve both industry insiders and a broader audience.
- Familiarity with WordPress.
