Remote Job News Editor (TheThings.com) (Negotiation Remote)

The editorial team at TheThings.com is currently looking for a News Editor to join the reality and celebrity enthusiastic team and oversee the editorial operations. We work hard to provide the best content possible to our readers in relation to Celebrities, Hollywood, Reality TV, and everything Pop Culture, and we are seeking knowledgeable writers/editors to offer actionable insight into these topics.

Are you constantly checking up on your favorite celebs? Can you not get enough of KUWTK and Housewives? Do you like to follow up on contestants’ social media accounts after Love Island? Do you have a way with words? Are you looking for engaging part time work on weekend mornings? This may be the job for you!

As a News Editor for  TheThings.com, you’ll be responsible for editing and publishing content submitted by our freelance writing team, monitoring major news sources and social media to generate and pitch original ideas to be written, and providing feedback to the writing team about their content. You’ll oversee aspects of the Editorial and Writing Teams, making sure images are sized correctly and appropriate to the topic, and SEO guidelines are implemented according to the in-house Writing Guide.

• Editor should publish 5 articles/day, Monday to Friday;

• Ability to work early;

• While our writers and editors operate in different time zones, we at TheThings HQ will be online from 10:00am – 6:00pm EST. Because the News initiative is fast-paced breaking news, you would be available to operate and check emails/Slack often during that time.

• Affinity to reality-tv, celebrities, and pop culture content;

• Ability to manage a team of 4-8 writers;

• Proofread and edit spelling, grammar, and syntax;

• Ensure SEO practices are implemented in all articles published;

• Collaborate with the writing team in all aspects of the writing process;

• Pitch article topics.

• Affinity with celebrity news and social media platforms

• Writing, copy editing and proofreading experience;

• Knowledge of SEO and industry best practices;

• Practical knowledge with the ability to learn quickly;

• Driven to achieve goals through hard work;

• Good communication skills;

• Meticulous attention to detail and capability of producing flawless work;

• Previous editing experience is a plus.
